Bohemia River, Veazey Cove

We anchored in Veazey Cove on the Bohemia River, just a few miles from the C & D (Chesapeake and Delaware) Canal.

Morning duty:  Pulling up the anchor with the windlass and then washing off all the mud.

Today we traveled about 57 miles in 8 hours. We crossed under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge - note the smooth water.  Made for an easy sail.  The bridge has two spans and is 4.33 and 4.35 miles long, the two spans of the bridge form the longest water crossing in Maryland.
.

There are many large sailboats on the Chesapeake.

We crossed the C & D Canal, a 14 mile long narrow canal that connects the Delaware River with the Chesapeake Bay.  The canal is vital to the ports of the Delaware River, Baltimore, and others along the northern Atlantic trade routes.  Millions of tons of cargo are transported annually by container ships.  We were happy that we did not meet any of these large ships in the narrow canal.
