The Big Apple or Subway, Ferry, Taxi, Bus

NEW YORK CITY
Last year we did not stop and tour New York City, but continued up the Hudson, taking many photos of the skyline. This year we stopped to take in the sites.  I had never been to NYC and King went there as a child.

So, we stayed at Great Kills Yacht Club on Staten Island and learned the S-78 and X-1 bus routes, the train route, the ferry schedule and the subway system.  We had quite a time.  Fortunately, King loaded an ap on his phone that helped to coordinate the maze of transportation options.

                                     First stop - Times Square

Times Square large selfie - King and I are on the far right, look for my blonde hair.

We ate a great lunch at Tony's DiNapoli.  The food and atmosphere were both great!

The guys at the table next to ours ordered strawberry shortcake for dessert.  I asked to take a picture. Talk about huge!

Next stop - the Red on-off Tour Bus.
Sites from the tour bus.

 Freedom Tower

 Pennsylvania Station

All members of Engine 54 Ladder 4 Battalion 9 were lost in the terror attack of 9/11.

Downtown Manhattan from a tour boat.

 The Brooklyn Bridge
A very fast current of 5 knots runs on the East River.

China Town Fish Market, baskets of grains, fresh spices and lizards on a stick!  We decided to keep walking and not buy anything.

Sights around Little Italy

We navigated the New York Subways, great ap that helped us find our way.

People waiting for the next train.

Grand Central Station

Ken and Teri, loopers from Roundabout, live in Vermont.  They met us at Grand Central and showed us 5th Avenue, Central Park and the Plaza Hotel.

Store window on 5th Avenue.  This Dad is all decked out for Father's Day.  Note he has on a sport coat, white pants, and a tie.  He is in a bun, surrounded by ketchup and mustard bottles.  Interesting??

 Plaza Hotel.  Rooms are $1,200 - $1,700 a night.

 Central Park

Tim, Francie & kids (from Austin) were in town for 24 hrs, on their way to a great cruise.  We always like seeing them.
